Veronica D. Lowe

BACKGROUND

Veronica Lowe moved to Frederick County in March of 2006 from Grand Rapids MI after accepting a position to join the Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) team as the Director of Transportation. She has also held the position of Deputy Director of Transit Services for Frederick County Government with over 32 years of experience in both pupil and public transportation between Maryland and Michigan. 

 

While serving as the Director of Transportation, several of her responsibilities included managing a budget of $20.5 million, supervising over 550 employees, and coordinating the transportation of buses. Ms. Lowe is experienced in cost savings, redistricting, procurement, legislation, and working collaboratively with union representatives. In her leadership position, she has collaborated with school administrators, principals, assistant principals, managers, and drivers to foster a strong working relationship. She currently serves as Deputy Director of Labor and Employee Relations for the Maryland Department of Transportation - Maryland Transit Administration. 

 

Currently, they have non-unionized employees and three groups of unionized employees. A significant part of her responsibility is to interpret the Collective Bargaining Agreements, policies, and regulations. Ms. Lowe holds an MBA in Leadership Studies, a BBA in Human Resources Management, and an Associate degree in management. She is a graduate of Leadership Frederick County Chamber “Class of 2018” with forty-seven other classmates. 

 

Her family includes a daughter, one grandson who attends Governor Thomas Johnson High School, and two dogs. When her daughter was in elementary school, she was a PTA President and Fundraising Chair. 

 

Since the day that she moved to Frederick, she has been actively involved in community volunteering in many ways. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Chi Theta Omega Chapter which has served the Frederick Community for over 20 years. Ms. Lowe is a trustee and board secretary for the Community Foundation, serving on the Human Resources, DEI Audit, Grants, and Scholarship committees. She serves on the Human Relations Commission for Frederick County Government as a Commissioner and Parliamentarian. Ms. Lowe is also a board member, a former Mentor, and on the DEI Audit Committees for Woman to Woman Mentoring. 

 

She has created relationships with local, city, state, and law enforcement and the Sheriff’s Department, Maryland State Department of Education Special Education Division, Maryland State Department of Education Pupil Transportation Division, State Highway, County Roads, and city of Frederick Administrations, the MVA, and varied County Community Leaders.
